Morgan Stanley Video Interview: Major Goal Answer

Morgan Stanley Video Interview: Major Goal Answer

Morgan Stanley's 2027 Fixed Income Video Interview uses this question to separate ambition from execution. The goal itself matters less than the system you use to make progress when motivation fades.

The real question

The final clause is the test. It asks how you will make achievement likely, not how strongly you want it.

Describe a major goal you’ve set for yourself recently and tell us how you will make sure to achieve it.

How you lose points

  • Choosing a distant aspiration: A dream without current action is difficult to evaluate.
  • Giving a generic reason: Personal importance must be specific enough to explain persistence.
  • Listing intentions: Planning to work harder is not a mechanism.
  • Skipping milestones: The interviewer cannot see how you measure progress.
  • Ignoring setbacks: A plan that assumes perfect execution sounds fragile.

How you pass

Use a goal that is important, bounded, and already underway. Explain why you selected it, define the finish line, show the routines and checkpoints you use, and describe how you respond when results fall behind plan.

  • State the goal and deadline in one sentence.
  • Name the gap between your current and target performance.
  • Describe two recurring actions and one measurable checkpoint.
  • Explain who or what holds you accountable.
  • Give one early sign that the system is working.

For example, in a hypothetical Fixed Income preparation plan, a candidate might aim to explain key curve movements confidently within eight weeks. The person schedules three weekly market reviews, writes one short rates note every Friday, tests explanations with a peer, and tracks concepts that still cause hesitation. The evidence is the routine and the feedback loop, not a claim of passion.

A good answer shows controlled ambition. It proves that you turn uncertainty into repeatable work.
