What this is
Morgan Stanley's 2027 Video Interview for Investment Management tests more than whether you can tell an ethical story. The interviewer wants evidence that you can notice a risk, verify it, and act without turning a concern into drama.
The real question
The wording puts judgment and execution in the same frame:
Doing the right thing is essential at Morgan Stanley, and one of our core values. Please provide an example of a time when you noticed something that didn't appear right. How did you handle and approach the situation?
How you lose points
- Choosing a harmless example. A formatting error or missed calendar invite gives you no room to demonstrate judgment.
- Jumping straight to accusation. Acting before checking the facts can make you sound impulsive and unfair.
- Hiding your own responsibility. The story should show what you observed and what you personally did next.
- Escalating to the highest authority first. Strong judgment matches the response to the seriousness and urgency of the issue.
- Stopping at confrontation. The answer needs a corrective action and a result, not just a difficult conversation.
How you pass
Use a clean sequence: signal, verification, private intervention, escalation threshold, correction, and result. Start with the specific fact that looked wrong. Explain how you separated a genuine problem from a misunderstanding. Then show why your response protected the work and the people involved.
A credible hypothetical example is a team valuation that relies on an adjusted figure while labeling it as standard operating income. You would trace the source, reconcile the figures, speak privately with the analyst who built the model, and correct the output. You would involve a supervisor only if the error remained material, deliberate, or unresolved.
- State the risk in concrete terms.
- Show the evidence you checked before acting.
- Explain why the first conversation was proportionate.
- Name the condition that would trigger escalation.
- Close with the corrected result and what changed afterward.
The best answer makes integrity operational. It shows that doing the right thing includes accuracy, restraint, and follow-through.
