JP Morgan Interview: Analyzing Multiple Sources

JP Morgan Interview: Analyzing Multiple Sources

What this question is testing

The interviewer is looking for a visible decision process: how you judged source quality, reconciled differences and moved from evidence to a conclusion.

The real interview question

Tell me about a time when you had to analyze information from multiple sources in order to make a decision. Please describe the situation and the steps you took to reach a conclusion.

Where answers lose credibility

  • Naming several sources without explaining why each mattered
  • Presenting the conclusion as obvious from the start
  • Ignoring inconsistencies or missing information
  • Giving no decision criteria or validation step

A stronger answer framework

  • Define the decision, stakes and deadline.
  • Group the sources by relevance, reliability and recency.
  • Explain how you resolved conflicts, tested assumptions and filled critical gaps.
  • State the conclusion, its result and one limitation you monitored.

Use a case where the sources did not all agree. Walk through the comparison criteria and one pivotal finding that changed your view. This demonstrates analysis more convincingly than a long inventory of documents.
