Failing RSM's Summer Internship 2027 online assessment is the most common early rejection in US — and the most fixable. The assessment tests trainable skills, which means targeted practice reliably moves scores.
Why Candidates Fail This Stage
- Time pressure: Cognitive sections are designed so most people cannot finish. Without timed practice, even strong candidates run out of time.
- Unfamiliar formats: Situational judgement and game-based assessments reward familiarity. First-timers underperform.
- Environment issues: Distractions, poor internet, or tab-switching can invalidate a sitting.
The 4-Week Recovery Plan
Week 1: Diagnose. Take a full timed mock and log where you lost marks — speed, accuracy, or specific question types.
Week 2-3: Drill weaknesses. 25 minutes daily on your weakest section type, always timed. Review every error the same day.
Week 4: Simulate. Do 3 full mock assessments under real conditions — same time of day, quiet room, no pauses.
What Changes for RSM Specifically
Research RSM's stated values before practising situational sections — SJT answers are scored against the firm's model. For cognitive sections, generic timed practice transfers well.
Reapplying After an Assessment Rejection
Check the firm's official careers page for RSM's reapplication rules, which may vary by role and region. Many candidates who fail the assessment once pass comfortably after a month of structured practice — the skill is trainable, so treat it that way.
