BDO Graduate Scheme 2027 Video Interview Tips: How to Perform on Camera

October 9, 2026

BDO's Graduate Scheme 2027 process in US includes a Online Assessment stage where presentation matters as much as content. These practical tips help you perform naturally on camera and score well on both AI-analysed and human-reviewed criteria.

Before You Record

Test your setup: Stable internet, quiet room, plain background, and good lighting on your face. Record a 30-second test and watch it back.
Know the format: BDO video interviews are commonly reported by candidates to include timed questions with limited preparation and recording windows. Check the firm's official careers page for the current format, as details may vary by role and region.
Prepare stories, not scripts: Memorised answers sound robotic. Prepare bullet-point structures instead.

During Each Question

Use the prep time wisely: Jot down 3 keywords — not full sentences. Glance, then speak to the camera.
Structure every answer: Open with your main point, support it with one example, and close cleanly. Rambling is the most common reason candidates score poorly.
Body language counts: Sit upright, look into the camera (not at yourself), smile naturally, and keep hand gestures minimal.

Answering Competency Questions on Video

Apply the STAR method but tighten it — video answers should run 60-90 seconds. Lead with the action and result, since assessors may review many recordings.

After Each Recording

Do not re-record unless the platform allows it and your first attempt had a technical fault. Perfectionism wastes your limited attempts.

Practice Plan for the BDO Online Assessment

Do 5-6 timed practice runs with real BDO-style questions before the real thing. Review each recording for filler words, structure, and energy. Candidates who practise on camera consistently report feeling calmer on the day.
